New Teacher Orientation - August
Your first few days at DeForest Area Schools are planned to introduce you to people and procedures you will need to know to start the school year. These busy, high energy days are also planned to allow for building relationships.
Initial Educator Seminars
There will be four seminars for first year teachers to attend throughout the school year. These are usually held from 4:00-5:00 pm. Content of the seminars will be based on your needs as the year unfolds, trends in education, and the Danielson Model of Evaluation. Time is set aside for sharing the joys and sorrows of "First Year Teaching." Professional educators who are new employees to the district are welcome to join any of these seminars if the topic is of interest to them.
Individual Meetings
First-year teachers will be three times a month with their mentor, second-year teachers will meet two times a month with their mentor, and third-year teachers will meet once a month with their mentor. These meetings provide a time for initial educators reflect on their teaching practice, problem solve various situations, and work towards the goals the intial educator sets for themself.
Professional educators, new to the district, will have a Building Orientation Buddy (BOB) assigned to them to help familiarize the new employee to their buidling and district level policies, procedures, and resources. BOB's will continue to act as a resource to the new employee even after the intial orientation.
